Cloudflare and beehiiv Launch AI Crawl Controls to Support Independent Publishers in the AI Era

Cloudflare and beehiiv Introduce AI Crawl Controls to Help Independent Publishers Navigate the AI Era

Cloudflare, Inc. and beehiiv have launched AI Crawl Control through a strategic partnership. The collaboration aims to help independent publishers manage how AI systems access and use their content. The new AI Crawl Control integration combines Cloudflare’s Crawl Control technology with the beehiiv platform. As a result, creators gain greater visibility into AI activity and stronger control over their digital assets.

As AI-powered search and discovery continue to evolve, publishers seek flexible ways to manage content access. Therefore, beehiiv users can now choose between two content management options. Publishers can opt for maximum discovery and allow AI search engines and agents to crawl their content. Consequently, they can expand content distribution and reach broader audiences.

Alternatively, publishers can select content protection. This option blocks AI scraping and helps preserve archives for future monetization and licensing opportunities.

“Cloudflare is dedicated to protecting and enabling content creators, from independent bloggers to the world’s largest publishers,” said Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare. “As the Internet evolves, our commitment remains the same: ensuring creators have the tools they need to thrive. This partnership with beehiiv is the next logical step in that mission, giving newsletter operators the transparency and control to navigate the AI era on their own terms, whether they are optimizing for discovery or preserving their work for future opportunities.”

“beehiiv was built to support creator independence,” said Tyler Denk, co-founder and CEO of beehiiv. “As AI changes how people find and consume content, publishers need real leverage. Our partnership with Cloudflare gives creators the data and controls they need to either maximize discovery and distribution, or protect their writing and dictate their own terms.”

AI Crawl Control Simplifies Publisher Management

Previously, publishers often relied on manual robots.txt updates and firewall configurations. However, those methods required technical expertise and ongoing maintenance. The new AI Crawl Control solution removes those barriers. Moreover, publishers of all sizes can configure automated preferences without complex technical processes.

The integration includes personalized analytics powered by Cloudflare APIs. Through an on-platform dashboard, creators can see which AI crawlers access their content. Additionally, they can identify blocked crawlers and monitor referral traffic generated by those services. Furthermore, users can enable or restrict specific AI models through one-click permissions. This flexibility helps publishers align AI access with their business objectives.

The platform also supports future-proof rights management. As new AI crawlers emerge, automatic updates maintain current protections. Therefore, publishers do not need to update code manually. AI Crawl Control will be available in beta to all beehiiv users. Consequently, every publisher can gain insights into AI interactions and traffic generation. In addition, beehiiv Max customers will receive advanced AI Crawl Control capabilities. They can block AI crawlers and determine how content is used across the broader AI ecosystem.
