The Executive Leadership Council Appoints Crystal L. Brown as Chief Engagement, Communications and Marketing Officer

Executive Leadership Council announces Crystal L. Brown appointment as Chief Engagement, Communications, and Marketing Officer. She will take care of marketing, communication, brand, and stakeholder engagement at the company. As a Chief Engagement, Communications, and Marketing Officer, Crystal L. Brown will manage strategic communication, public relations, executive visibility, digital engagement, and story management. She will also support efforts to improve member engagement and build organizational external impact.

Crystal L. Brown was appointed by Executive Leadership Council because of her rich experience in communications and brand leadership. Over the years, Crystal L. Brown has developed brands and led strong teams in different industries. Brown joins The ELC after serving as Chief Communications, Marketing, and Brand Officer at National Geographic Society. There, she led brand, marketing, and communications efforts. As a result, the organization increased public engagement and strengthened brand relevance. Her leadership also supported a historic fundraising campaign and enterprise-wide transformation initiatives.

Brown shared her enthusiasm about joining the organization and supporting its mission.

Extensive Leadership and Advisory Experience

Previously, Brown served as Vice President and Chief Communications Officer at Howard University. She advised leadership during a significant period of institutional transformation. She also became the first Chief Communications Officer at the University of Maryland and helped elevate its national profile. Earlier, Brown held leadership roles at communications and consulting firms. She advised organizations including the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the National Education Association. In addition, she continues to support education and leadership development initiatives.

Brown currently serves on the University of Virginia Alumni Association Board of Managers. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Rhetoric and Communications from the University of Virginia. The Executive Leadership Council expects Brown’s leadership to strengthen engagement efforts and support its long-term mission.
