OnQ announced a major upgrade to its proprietary Converge platform. The software now integrates directly with IBM AS/400-based inventory management systems. This change connects real-time inventory data directly to in-store retail displays. It allows physical store screens to display accurate product availability.
The integration solves a classic retail problem. Displays can now automatically suppress out-of-stock items. They also prioritize available inventory. Stores can easily align promotions with products that shoppers can actually buy.
IBM AS/400-based inventory management systems are also called IBM i. Giant brands like Walmart, Costco, Target, and Walgreens rely on them. These systems manage high-volume transactions and complex supply chains.
Real-World Deployment at Costco
This new technology has already finished its pilot phase. OnQ deployed the technology across 610 Costco club stores in the United States. Costco is among the first retailers to use this capability.
The update helps brands manage complex deployments across multiple locations. It removes the need for disconnected tools and manual workflows.
“We believe the future of retail belongs to platforms that connect everything,” said Paul Chapuis, founder & CEO of OnQ. “Not just screens and content, but inventory, reporting, operations, and the customer experience itself. Converge was built from the ground up to be that kind of platform. It’s already an incredibly robust system for managing devices, content, and engagement across retail environments. Now, with AS/400 integration, it extends even deeper into the retailer ecosystem, helping brands and retailers finally bring the operational and customer sides of the store together in a meaningful way.”
The update enhances three core capabilities of the platform. Remote device management lets teams monitor hardware status. They can check serial numbers and fix issues quickly. Content management allows teams to preview and deploy digital experiences. The system supports continuous delivery even during internet interruptions. Finally, reporting and analytics help users study shopper engagement. OnQ currently manages thousands of live global screens.
